Continuing his ongoing exploration of maritime signal flags as a language of their own, Peter Chao offers a commissioned extension of the Nautical Signals series: a single letter, chosen by you, rendered by hand in punch needle and couching embroidery on monk's cloth, and finished with a temporary frame.
Each flag is worked in two colors — a primary set against off-white — following the traditional maritime alphabet, where every letter once carried its own message across open water. Chosen as an initial, a private mantra, or simply for its form, the letter becomes a quiet, personal cipher.
Available in three sizes. Each piece is made to order by hand; no two are ever quite alike.
